AFTER needs your help!
Hi all
The Standardbred stand will be going ahead at the Royal Brisbane Show (EKKA) this year.
AFTER is seeking volunteers to help man the stand and also horses to go into the display (basically your horse will stand in a stall so that people can look at him/ her and see how beautiful Standies are).
If there are not enough volunteers and horses, the stand will be given to another breeed next year. It is really important that this stand keeps going as it is FREE publicity for the Life AFTER Racing program.
Other members of the Standardbred fraternity (harness racing clubs and pleasure clubs) have been asked to help out too, but we need to pitch in as well.
If anyone can pitch in and help out, please pm or email me (info@afterqld.org.au).
Thanks heaps
Cazz

Re: AFTER needs your help!
Hey thanks Mel. In past years when I have done a stint on the stand I was given a pass inot the ground and then once I was finished on the satnd could go an have a look around. Hopefully it will be the same this year. Once I have spoken to Margaret, I will contact all helpers and sort out finer details.
We still need more helpers so if anyone can help out let us know.
Cheers

Re: AFTER needs your help!
Hi all
Thanks to everyone who has offered help.
I am in the process of contacting those who have put their hands up to get some idea of the day you can help.
I spoke to Marg and basically she is thinking of making up a roster of 4 hour blocks. She is hoping that they will organise passes and basically you do four hours on the stand and then get to spend the rest of the time looking around the EKKA (if you want).
So if anyone else out there would like to help out, let me know either here or by pm or by email (info@afterqld.org.au) or by phone (5467 9571)
Go the Standies

Re: AFTER needs your help!
Cazz if you still need more volunteers I can help out.
I can also bring Monty along if you need horses for the stand as well. He may not be the prettiest Standie but he will love the attention.

Re: AFTER needs your help!
Hi all
BOTRA are still looking for volunteers for the Standardbred breed stand at the EKKA.
In particular we need people who can be there in time to have the horse in the display by 8:00am and also have people there to take the horse to its stable after 6:00pm and stay until the fireworks are over (around 7:30pm) to make sure the horse is OK. So if talking to people or doing the display is not really your thing perhaps you could help out with this.
The horses being used are very easy to handle and used to being around crowds etc.
The schedule for the display times for Standardbreds is...
Friday 07/08 - 11:00am
Saturday 08/08 - 04:30pm (with parade at 06:00pm)
Sunday 09/08 - 04:30pm
Tuesday 11/08 - 04:00pm
Wednesday 12/08 - 12:30pm Grand Parade / 4:30pm display
Thursday 13/08 - 05:00pm
Friday 14/08 - 05:00pm
Saturday 15/08 - Parade 12:30pm
If you can donate some time, the organisers would really appreciate it.
Cheers
