| Hi All I'm Karen from the nsw Central Coast i own 1 standard bred gelding Big Ben, rescued him from the QLD dogger yards roughly about 6 months ago. married 26 years 3 kids ranging from 15-24, 1 grandson. Was a strapper more years ago than I like to remember T/B racing left horses for 30 years raised kids bred comp show rabbits for 19 years dealing mainly in recreating breeds we don't have access to in Australia, via genetics. daughter was showing me pictures of the horses in the have a heart rescue she was considering getting a pony saw Ben and in those eyes I could see hurt and pain but also a smart kind horse just needing a chance (he understands me) Ben has trust issues but we are working on them This ben 6 months down the track after lots of work bringing him back from the walking skeleton he was. hope to pick up lots of pointers from you guys |

| Welcome Karen and Ben. He looks like a lovely boy. _________________ "Of all the things about me that could frighten you, you worry about my driving."

| Hi Karen, Ben's story is so similar to Beavies (sadly they could be peas in a pod). Keep up the great work, it sounds as though you are already doing wonderful things for him. You will get there soon enough!! He looks just like Beavie too _________________ Can I Still Play On Here When I Don't Have A Standie?? | hi there big ben! welcome to the standy forum everyone here is really friendly and happy to help you with your problems. i think it's great having other peoples opinions/way of do things and helping which every way they can. looks like your doing a lovely job. it takes time to build the trust up. i've had flighty for 6 months now and i'm still having trust issues. just keep persisting and we'll get there and it would be worth all the tears and the heart ache because you'll end up with a life long bond. |

| Ben looks like a lovely boy and is very lucky to get a second chance - well done! _________________ We have almost forgotten how strange a thing it is that so huge and powerful and intelligent an animal as a horse should allow another, and far more feeble animal to ride upon it's back. ~Peter Gray |

| Thanks for the warm welcome Guys, had the farrier out to Ben yesterday for his 4 weekly trim ( be glad when they can be stretched out further) his abscesses have nearly healed and his feet are starting to resemble hooves not big toes. farrier has suggested that I use old mac boots or ezi boots and he will only be lightly used, he is quite a ways off that yet but was wondering if anyone had used them. karen |

| Personally I like the Macs (even though they are sooo very pricie) They just seem to fit and wear better. Beaver has them only on his back feet, he is really tender. I couldn't ask a farrier to put shoes on his backs - he would charge me danger money _________________ Can I Still Play On Here When I Don't Have A Standie??
