New Standie owner with rescued Standie.

Post by dare2dream on Wed Sep 03, 2008 7:21 pm

Hi first time user and very new to forums have no idea how they work....heres hoping I get it right!
Just got my first Standie.....Rescue horses so might need some help from other owners.
Told he is 5yrs (not sure how to read there brands), 15.2hh, retired from racing 10 weeks ago, was left in a yard with just water and occassional bits thrown to him hence underweight now, very quiet, did trot and canter in roundyard.
Any suggestions most welcome.
Thank you

Hi and Welcome to the forum Smile

Congrats on rescuing you Standie too!

If you can post a picture (instructions on how to do this are at the top of the 'general standardbred chat' section) of his brand then we can find out his info for you.

Ok,

first off welcome1 to you dare2dream. This forum is amazing for support and advice but at present I am the only one hear to at least try to help.

Reading the freeze brand is very easy. Click on the link below and it will take you to a site explaining how to read it.

http://www.spphav.org/articles/freeze.html

So do you happen to know what the horses body score is? If not, then click on this link to help you:

http://www.phhwv.org.au/docs/PHHWV%20Info%20Note%20-%20Equine%20Body%20Scoring.pdf

And to give you some info on rehab try this link:

Hope this helps and give us a pic. We love our pics.

Take care

hey! welcome to the forum, i'm new aswell.
just thought i'd help you with trying to identify your new four legged friend,

if you jump onto http://www.spphav.org/articles/freeze.html
than once you have figured out numbers,
go to www.harness.org.au and press on the search column and scroll down to "horse search"

type in the horses brand numbers in (both top and bottom brands) eg S3981396

it will show you the horse's race name, breeding and race record.

hope this helps you with.

cheers

welcome1 Daretodream and congrats on your new horse.
We have almost forgotten how strange a thing it is that so huge and powerful and intelligent an animal as a horse should allow another, and far more feeble animal to ride upon it's back.
